The Utah Division of Multicultural Affairs is honored to receive the Governor’s Award for Excellence from Governor Gary Herbert and Lt. Governor Spencer J. Cox. This award recognizes our team’s commitment to elevate voices of multicultural communities and strive to build equitable opportunities for all those who call Utah home.

This year has created new challenges for our division and we would have been unable to respond without the contributions of our newest team members who helped with the lift of COVID-19 initiatives in 2020. We also recognize that this division’s success is solely possible because of the partnerships cultivated across public and private sectors and the tireless efforts of the many volunteers that serve on the commissions we oversee including the Multicultural Advisory Committee of Utah’s COVID -19 Response, and the Multicultural Commission and Utah Martin Luther King Jr. Human Rights Commission.

We have been blessed to work with amazing people this past year and we thank all who supported us and extended collaborative opportunities to encourage equity and inclusion at all levels of government. We also dedicate this award to the memory of Margarita Satini who embodied the mission of our division to create an inclusive Utah and advocate for our resilient multicultural communities. Her influence will be forever felt by those whose lives she touched. So for every person on the front lines working to heal and help our state recover during these trying times, our team wants to thank YOU for all you are doing.

Thank you to the Utah Department of Heritage & Arts family for nominating us for this prestigious award and a resounding congratulations to all state divisions and agencies who have been awarded and recognized for their public service.
