Please join the Utah Division of Multicultural Affairs and the Department of Cultural and Community Engagement as we engage with our past, take informed action in the present, and work together to shape the future during Utah’s first annual Civic Season. Throughout June and July the department as a collective will highlight nine historic days that honor our nation’s rich and complex history:
- June 2nd – Indian Citizenship Act
- June 12th – Loving Day
- June 14th – Flag Day
- June 19th – Juneteenth
- July 1st – 26th Amendment
- July 2nd – Civil Rights Act of 1964
- July 4th – Independence Day
- July 24th – Pioneer Day
- July 26th – Americans with Disabilities Act
We’ll be sharing resources and activities on Utah’s past and present through our social media channels. Look for #UtahCivicSeason and #CivicSeason.
Utah Civic Season is part of a new annual tradition happening in neighborhoods, cities, and social spaces across the country. Visit TheCivicSeason.com to discover opportunities to engage with history, flex your civic muscles, and shape this tradition.
Whatever your interests, wherever you live, you can access hundreds of programs and resources available nationwide. Whether you have a few minutes or an hour, you can participate in programs including an at-home version of the segregated lunch counter from the Center for Civil and Human Rights, a citizenship quiz from New York Historical Society, a live-streamed naturalization ceremony hosted at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, and much more.
Civic Season is a new initiative by the Made By Us collaborative and Civics Unplugged. We are excited to join this partnership with more than 100 of the nation’s leading history and civic institutions, including the National Museum of American History, the National Archives Foundation, Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, the First Americans Museum and the New York Historical Society. The coalition’s mission is to present history to the next generation in order to inspire, inform and empower civic participation. Civics Unplugged is a nonpartisan 501c3 that prepares high school students to become effective contributors to building democracy.
