A student journalist at the University of Utah has published a comprehensive, engaging story about the Multicultural Commission.
The article by Megan Christine in Voices of Utah includes interviews with commissioners Dr. Jacqueline Thompson, Rebecca Chavez-Houck, and Marcia Garciaz.
Topics discussed by the commissioners include the history of the commission, the balance between working with ethnic communities and representing the state, and encouraging conversations around important community issues. Dr. Thompson also spoke of the commission’s involvement in the annual Multicultural Youth Leadership Summit.
“When these students come to the conferences, they are already born leaders. They are acting in leadership capacities. We call them future leaders, but they really are present leaders, too.”
