2019 Multicultural Youth Leadership Day at the Capitol

Every Year the Utah Office of Multicultural Affairs Invites High School Students to Attend Multicultural Youth Leadership Day at the Capitol During the Legislative Session. The Event Engages Youth in the Legislative Process and Promotes the Importance of Becoming Informed and Involved Citizens.

PREREQUISITES

  • Target audience: Students, parents, educators and leaders
  • Grades: 10, 11, 12
  • Group size: Maximum of 20 students and two adult chaperones per school. Students must be accompanied by at least one chaperone.
  • Registration: REGISTRATION IS NOW FULL. You can, however, contact us about placing your school on the wait list if other schools cancel their registration.
    • Early registration: December 11 – January 15 
    • Late registration: January 16 – January 29
  • Program length: Check in at 9:30 a.m. and depart at 1:00 p.m.
  • Conference prep: Complete a 10-minute fillable parent questionnaire online or in a PDF form. Submit the PDF form on the day of the event or email it to [email protected]. Know and understand this valued information is important to help plan future events.

EVENT DETAILS

  • Agenda: see the updated agenda.
  • Parking: Free — view the map. Be aware parking is limited during the legislative session. Plan to carpool or take public transit to arrive in time for the event.
  • Exhibitor tables: Stationed near the entryway of the Auditorium in the State Office Building

EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION AWARDS

  • Purpose: Recognize extraordinary students and educators who help advance civic learning and engagement with Utah’s multicultural communities.
  • Eligibility: 10th, 11th and 12th grade students and educators
  • Nominations: Submit through Google Forms or email a completed PDF form to [email protected]
  • Deadline: January 25 at 5:00 p.m.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

  • Group size: 10 adults
  • Commitment: Attend a 30-minute volunteer workshop prior to the event and provide support through assigned tasks on the day of the event
