A Taste of Switzerland in the Rocky Mountains

Midway’s annual Swiss Days offers a colorful celebration of Swiss heritage and culture on Labor Day weekend. The festival draws thousands of visitors to the Heber Valley to experience a taste of Switzerland in the heart of the Wasatch Mountains.

The town originally launched a harvest festival in the 1940s. Over the years, the festival drew upon the town’s Swiss heritage in memory of the early immigrant families who were surprised to find mountain scenery that reminded them of their homelands. At the festival, traders and vendors showcase their arts, crafts, and foods, creating an atmosphere that’s reminiscent of a European village fair.

The air is filled with the sounds of music, the aroma of freshly baked pastries, and the chatter of locals and tourists.

Over the years, as the festival exploded in popularity, local residents began camping out to secure the best spots to view the Swiss Days parade. Now one of the most anticipated aspects of the festival is the cuisine, with vendors offering food ranging from savory bratwurst and locally produced raclette cheese to sweet treats such as Swiss chocolates. Midway’s Swiss Days offers a chance for visitors to appreciate harvest traditions and community.
